Si passa quindi alla priorità di diaframma, chiudendolo quasi completamente, senza esitare nell’aumentare ancora un po’ la chiusura se la generosità nei tempi d’esposizione compensa. Osserviamo che la velocità dell’otturatore che sceglieremo dovrà essere tale da permettere uno scatto a mano libera pulito: velocità minimo, uno diviso una volta e mezza la lunghezza focale. La compensazione dell’esposizione disponibile sulle fotocamere digitali ci aiuta poi a sottoesporre l’immagine quel tanto che serve: la fotocamera, nel ritratto di questo tipo, tende spesso a cercare dettagli nell’ombra. Una sottoesposizione di uno o due stop, in questa situazione, equivale a dire: “è normale che qui faccia buio, non andare nel panico”. Fatto questo, dedichiamoci al flash, e impostandolo in modalità manuale regoliamolo a un ottavo di potenza, e avviciniamolo al soggetto quel tanto che basta a non risultare troppo forte …
